designs office workspaces and sells the related furniture.
BOI maintains three warehouse locations. Furniture is also
located in their showroom and is in use in their executive
offices. BOI wanted to have access to their complete
inventory from each networked PC and an improved approach to
physical inventory. In addition, BOI wanted an application
to improve customer interaction in the showroom.
Corner Office designed an inventory system that integrates to their
accounting and design system. Each piece of furniture is
tagged with a bar code label. Furniture is tracked, by
location, from purchase order, through receipt, to sale and
delivery. System functionality includes quotation tracking,
furniture movement to new locations and physical inventory
processing.
The system utilizes Symbol Technologies Model 2800 handheld Pocket PC
devices that include an integrated bar code reader. In the
showroom area, the salesperson can scan the bar code label on a
piece of furniture and show the customer a screen with the primary
information associated with this piece of furniture. The
salesperson can access another screen with cost and purchase date
information and immediately calculate a selling price for the
customer without leaving the customer to look-up cost information.
